This is a popular advanced tape, and with good reason. AL6 is
challenging and fun, and provides a good total body workout (as
most of the advanced tapes do). This tape is particularly good
for working on your flexibility, as both the warm-up and cool-down
have plenty of stretching. There is no floor work in AL6, but
there is very good standing ab work in the second half of the
tape, as well as flamingo work. I think the thing that makes
this tape somewhat tough is the fact that Billy has you do lots
of sets of most moves. Many of the moves in AL6 will be familiar
to you if you have other tapes. AL6 is also a classic example
of Billy saying, "One more set," and then you do at
least 2 more! OK, let’s get going.
You start with a good 8-9 minute warm-up, which includes, punches,
uppercuts, "pulling" front knee
raises, 2 sets of jumping jacks,
and lots of good stretching for the legs.
The workout itself begins with jabs, then
corner-to-corner jabs, then double-time corner-to-corner jabs,
both sides. A few hooks, then knee
raises, first slow then double-time. A 1-arm
speedbag follows, and you can kind of dance around
while you’re doing that. Transition into double
speedbag, and repeat the knee raises on
the other leg, again, first slow, then double-time. From here
you’ll do knee raise + pivot + punch (about
4-5 sets) on both sides. Then alternating front kicks,
first slow then double-time. Now he evens things up and you’ll
do the 1-arm speedbag followed by double-speedbag on
the other side. The speedbag work is fast-paced.
Time for a little silly "hoochie-coochie" thing
where you kind of swivel your hips around. Now comes your first
kicking sequence knee raise + side kick. Do
one set very slowly, then 5-6 sets fast. Then comes a fly,
slow then fast, and many reps (one side only). Repeat the knee
raise + side kick for the other leg, again 5-6 sets
fast. Grapevine follows this (4-5 sets), and
then the 2-punch combo (jab + cross). Jog in
place for a bit (ugh) and repeat the 2-punch combo for
the other side. Follow this with cross-the-body punch,
both sides, and then 3 jabs + punch, side-to-side.
Now a familiar move 2 knee raises + roundhouse kick +
punch (only 2-3 sets, each side, and not too fast).
Another familiar series comes next alternating front
knee raises + alternating front kicks + 4 jumping jacks (4-5
sets). More kicking grapevine + side kick, but
only 2-3 sets. Now another fly, but this time,
you alternate your arm movements out to the side, then up over
your head, and so on. (Only one leg is worked on this.) Are you
ready for lots of front kick + back kick? Good
try 6-7 sets on each side. Yikes. Now do 1-arm speedbag on
both arms simultaneously, and then 2 sets of double-time
swivel kicks. Assume your fighting guard position, and
do 3-4 sets of side kicks, both sides (the second
side goes for about 5-6 sets).
You’re about 35 minutes into the tape and it’s time
for ab work. You start with side crunches without
lifting your leg (pull the arm down and bring the hip up, squeezing
your abs), several sets, then hold it tight. Do for both sides.
Then repeat the side crunches, this time lifting your leg, slow
then double-time. Again, both sides are worked. Now you will
literally do regular stomach crunches (like
you would on the floor), except you’re standing up. End
of ab work.
A little bit of punching comes next, followed by 3 hops forward
and roll the arms as you hop backward. Now a new move squat
+ side kick. You do only 2-3 sets of these at a fairly
slow pace. Flamingo time! Double roundhouse kicks on
one leg (5 sets), then repeat on the other side, but slower this
time (5 sets again). Now the jackhammer initially
without lifting the leg, but then lift the leg and do 3 sets.
Hold it! Repeat on the other side.
On the home stretch now. Do 3 fast straight punches and take
3 fast steps to the side. Go back and forth doing this. Now Billy
gets you into an "awareness" mode
and has you do jabs, pretending you have an
imaginary opponent. You do a hard jab and take a step forward
while you do it, blowing the air out, and step back. You’ll
do several of these, with 1 jab, then 2, then 3. Both sides.
This is kind of a funny part of the tape because everyone is
really blowing out hard and making noise while they do it. You
end with side kicks, but the fastest and hardest side
kicks you’ve ever done! It’s cool. And speaking
of cool, the cool-down is 7-8 minutes, and almost exclusively
leg-stretching, including 30 seconds in the "thinking position".
Many familiar faces in AL6 Shellie, Debi, Jasmine, Michelle,
TQ, Matt, Julianne. The music is good the credits list "Outlaw", "Dancing
in Heaven", "You Make Me Feel Mighty Real", "Disco
Inferno", "C’mon and Ride It", and "You’re
A Superstar".
