Some people have said they don’t like
this tape because there are so many "bouncing" moves
in it,but overall, this is an excellent tape, particularly
for abs. There is definitely more kicking than punching
in BL2. This tape review includes some suggestion for modifying
those "bouncing" moves. This tape is of moderate
to high difficulty, in relation to the other basic tapes.
It is also fairly lopsided as far as doing the same number
of reps on each side.
You begin with a decent warm-up/stretch,
and then move right into punching. The
punching transitions into knee raises (one
side only) and then to cross-body punches (supported
on one bent leg to work the quads, moving the other leg
in front and then to the rear, punching with each movement
of the leg). From here you do 2 sets of jumping
jacks (suggested modifications: walk in place
or just do some knee raises), followed by double
speedbag on both sides.
After the double speedbag, you do a standard 3-punch
combo (several sets, but only one side), followed
by double speedbag again, but this time,
he wants you to jump up and down while
you do it, legs apart, then together, then apart and
so on (suggested modifications: just stand still, get
into a good horse stance, or jump every other one).
Now it’s time for some kicking and
ab work. You’ll do a grapevine for
a few sets, then transition to grapevine-side kick for
several sets. Then assume a roundhouse position, and lift
the leg straight up while you pull down with a
straight arm excellent ab work. You’ll do several
sets, both sides. This is followed by alternating
or side-to-side roundhouse kicks at a fairly good
pace. Walk it out, then time for more jumping jacks, I’m
afraid. Alternating front knee raise, alternating
front kick, and 4 jumping jacks (suggested modifications:
continue to do knee raises and kicks while they jump, only
do 2 instead of 4 jumping jacks, or simply march in place).
Here come more roundhouse kicks 4
on one side, 4 on the other side. Several sets of this
at a slow pace. Then double-time it for 2 sets or so. Now
some 1-arm speedbag work on both sides, moving into three 1-arm
speedbags + punch, side to side. You get a breather
doing some "fly" work, but then he takes you
to squat-front kick combo for 3-1/2 sets.
A few front knee raise-front kick combos (they’re
jumping in the tape, but you can modify it by simply NOT
jumping), then on to swivel kicks both
sides, several sets, double time. You end with a slow 1-legged "flamingo" balance
kick on both sides. The cooldown is fairly standard,
although you do get a hug at the very end, which is pretty
cool.
The most notable music in this workout is "Oh
What A Night".
