Other than the new 4-pack, this is the most recent
basic live tape available. BL6 is an easy-to-moderate level tape.
The pace is relatively slow. There is more punching than kicking
in BL6, and it provides a particularly good arm workout. Your
quads will get some attention with this one, too. There is no
floor work in BL6 and relatively little kicking, but
there is a balance move at the end. With few
exceptions, most moves are done with equal repetitions on both
sides.
The warm-up is about 6 minutes, and starts with jumping
jacks, "standard" arm stretches,
both side-to-side and across the front (lots of these), front
pulling knee raises, straight punches,
and several leg stretching moves, including
a few on the floor.
The workout begins with non-stop arm work. Several
sets of fast 1-arm speedbag on both sides, followed
by uppercuts, then hooks. Then
you do the step out + punch + clap move for
a few sets, then add a double speedbag to that.
Now just double speedbag standing still, then add jabs.
Repeat the double speedbag on the other side, and repeat the
addition of the jabs. This portion of the arm work wraps up with
4 sets or so of intense upper cuts.
Time for grapevine at a relatively
easy pace, and then you’ll add double knee raises on
either "end" of the grapevine steps. There’s
a little more arm work now if you have BL1, this will be familiar
to you. One arm is straight out to the side, the other is bent
with your hand at your chest you "scissor" the
arms back and forth while you do a step + front
knee raise. (I call this the "cheerleader move".)
Anyway, the arm movements change from the scissors to punching,
as you continue to step + front knee raise. You won’t repeat
the scissor arm movements for the other side, and instead of
punching while you do step + front knee raise, you punch while
you do step + front kick. Walk it out, then
do 2 knee raises + 2 punches, hopping side-to-side.
I had a problem with the next portion, due to my
lack of coordination. It’s not difficult, but I managed
to totally spaz out on this part. Start with circling
both arms to one side, then the other, while you are
stepping side to side. Then add a side knee raise/crunch.
I’ve only done this tape twice, and I’m sure with
more familiarity I’ll get this move, but I goofed it up
big time. This move will work your abs, and again, those arms.
The pace is slow-to-moderate.
Kicking time. Roundhouse kicks,
slow pace, 3-4 sets each side. Knee raise + side kicks,
again, 3-4 sets each side. This is pretty much all there is for
kicking in this tape. Now some pretty good work on those quads.
You do alternating knee raises first a "regular" knee
raise, then pivot and do a front "pulling" knee raise.
This transitions into a fairly lengthy cross-the-body
punching series, slow then fast. Repeat the cross-the-body
on the other leg, and then repeat the alternating knee raises.
Here’s the balance move (and almost the end of the tape).
If you have the original Studio Advanced tape, you’ll remember "machine
gun kicks" you do 3-4 sets, both sides in this
tape. He wraps it up with a good squat/horse stance while you
do the "muscle man" move, flexing
your biceps. You hold that for a short time, then you’re
done. The cooldown is very short 3 minutes tops.
Shellie, Jasmine, TQ, Irene, and Matt are in this
tape. There is also a woman who appears to be blind on one of
the risers. Billy tells you that he’ll tell you more about
her later, but unfortunately, he never does. The music is good
and includes "Stand By Me", "The Power Age", "Too
Shy", and "Mercedes Boy".
